WIP Wednesday: A Bag, a Hat, and a Scarf

This month I have three WIPs (Works in Progress) that I really want to complete and I only have ten days left.  Now, don't get me wrong.  These are not the only WIPs that I have lying around my house, and other various locations; they are the three that I would like to complete this month.  And I have only ten days left.

I'm sure that I can do it.  Really.  I'm sure that I can.

WIP #1:  Plarn Bag
This bag is my own pattern.  I hope to write the pattern out and offer it free on my blog someday soon, but first I have to complete this bag and the initial draft of the pattern.  All that's missing at this point is a row of single crochet around the handles, and somehow it is taking me forever to do it.

I think I have an actual fear of  finishing things.

WIP #2: Elephant Hat
My cousin had a baby and she decorated the room with handmade elephant-themed items.  I just had to make her an elephant baby hat.  I had to.  This hat has had problems (wow, that sentence has a lot of three letter words that start with ha).  I lost the crochet hook I was using.  I made a newborn hat, and now the baby is three months old.  I still cannot find the hook that I lost or the yarn.  I have more of the same yarn and I finally found another hook of the same size, so it is time to make a larger hat, add a trunk and some ears, and send it to that little baby girl.

WIP #3:  2 Color Brioche Scarf
Oh!  I love this scarf.  I love everything about it; the colors, the stitch, the design, it's all perfect.  And it's almost finished; all it needs is a couple of button holes and some buttons.  This scarf is my own design and grew from a simple experimental swatch that I started, inspired by The Knit Show.  If you have not watched The Knit Show yet, you totally have to check it out.  Vickie Howell is amazing, and inspiring.

Ten days is a ton of time.  I can totally do this.  If only I didn't have this incredible cold that is making my brain not work.  No, really, I can totally do this!

WIP Wednesday: CYC Crochet Instructor Samples

I have been working on the Craft Yarn Council Crochet Instructor Program for some time now.  When I first downloaded the materials, I got really excited and started reading the two manuals and crocheting all the samples immediately.  Some samples were easy.

Others challenged me with color work and crochet cables.  I learned a lot and tried new things and techniques that I might normally avoid out of fear.

Then I read the actual instructions for the samples that I am supposed to submit.  The instructions for each sample should be adjusted so the end result measures about 5 inches square.  None of my samples measured that size.  I had to start over.

Reading the instructions more closely also showed me that I had crocheted more samples than I actually needed.  Now I have almost finished all my samples.  I just ran out of yarn recently, but once I buy some more, I should be able to finish quickly.  I am really enjoying the experience and I am looking forward to completing the program and beginning some local crochet classes.

WIP Wednesday #7: Writing a Pattern

A couple of years ago, I created my own Dobby pattern.  I took notes as I worked, so I could write the pattern up someday.  Well, this week the inspiration finally hit me to start working on that pattern.  I started crocheting a new Dobby this week, using some leftover yarn.
I can already tell that there are some problems with my notes, some things that I need to change.  It's definitely a work in progress, but some day I hope to have a publishable pattern.  I would like to finish my first draft of the pattern by the end of June and then start some testing.  It's a new adventure for me :)

2015 WIP Wednesday #6

I have so many crochet, knit, and beading wips that are hibernating right now.  And I have found a new creative obsession:  art journaling.

I have been pinning and searching and oohing and aahing on Pinterest.
I bought a sketchbook and I have been experimenting with some new techniques.  Here is the cover page I created yesterday.

This sketchbook is now my new favorite wip.  I wonder how long it will take me to fill all the pages.

2015 WIP Wednesday #5: Buttons Found

I finally found the perfect buttons for my 50 Shades of Grey Cowl.
I am very excited to finish this cowl and get it sent to it's new owner.

2015 WIP Wednesday #4: 50 Shades of Grey Cowl Continues

I am on the last strip of my cowl.  I made the first two too long, but I think I will leave them like that.  We'll see what it looks like when it's all done.  I still need to buy buttons but this cowl should be done really soon.
Honestly, it should already be finished, but I have been involved in a lot of projects recently and lacking time for crochet.  I will get it done this week :)

2015 WIP Wednesday #3: G is for Grey Cowl

Today I am taking a break from my zentangles to share my current most-worked-on wip:  Moogly's Madly in Love Cowl.  I am crocheting this cowl in varying shades of grey and I am calling it my 50 Shades of Grey Cowl, even though there will be less than 50 shades in the actual garment.  Here is a close-up shot of my stitches....
And a slightly blurry picture of my overall progress so far.  You can see the different grey yarns that I have used thus far.

2015 WIP Wednesday #2 (late)

So about two days before my BIL's birthday, I decided that this year I want to give everyone a handmade gift, so I started crocheting a Brain Waves hat.  When I got to the last round, I put the hat on my head, and it was too small and too short.  I ripped the whole thing back and started a new hat.  This time I started knitting Christian's Hat.  I love the pattern.  It's totally reversible.
I am knitting in Cubs' colors because, well, he loves the Cubs.  Makes sense, right?  The next family birthday is three days from now.  I guess everyone is getting late birthday gifts this year :)

2015 WIP Wednesday #1

So many wips, so little time.  There is no way I could showcase all of my wips in this post.  There are way too many.....it would bore you.  So here are the wips I am working on this week.

The first square of the 2015 Moogly Afghan CAL
It's a very interesting square, just challenging enough.  I am pretty sure that I made a mistake in the last round, so I will be frogging a little and re-crocheting.
February 2014, I gave my mom and sister each an IOU for a handmade item.  My mom asked for mittens, and I chose this pattern.  The yarn is just perfect, and the cables are beautiful.  I had to adjust the size a little, but I think this pair of mittens could be finished before her 2015 birthday :)
A hat for my nephew
It will eventually be a monster with an eye and teeth and stuff.

WIP Wednesday: Blue Mist-ery

This Wednesday, I have a mystery project knit in Wool-Ease Blue Mist.  I love the color of this yarn and I am loving this project so far.  I'll share more details once the project is complete and gifted.
My attempt at a close-up of the beautiful cables.
I have a serious problem where I start gift crafting about a month before it's all due.
Wish me luck.
